Meet Amanda

I was raised on a farm in Sylvan Township and attended Chelsea public schools.  As a child, I spent my days exploring our township’s endless woodlands, prairies, and wetlands and was fortunate to move back to my family’s farm in 2016. Each day I still marvel at the incredible natural beauty that surrounds me. And like the days of my youth, I feel truly blessed to enjoy the same natural areas, watching the continuous movement of wildlife through my farm and gazing at the stars on quiet nights without light pollution.

These qualities exist because of the families across our township who have preserved and protected our rural communities. As a result, our township has an abundance of open spaces, lower population and traffic density, and natural habitat for wildlife.

Preserving the rural character of our township has been a cornerstone of our planning commission’s goals for decades. It is found throughout our Master Plan and I will continue to promote those goals.

After graduating from Chelsea High School, I completed a BS in Microbiology from Michigan State University and earned my national certification as a clinical massage therapist.

For over 20 years, I have owned and operated a medical massage therapy clinic in Chelsea, and networked with local doctors, chiropractors, and physical therapists to help my clients achieve health and wellness. My career as a healthcare professional has taught me that the best outcomes depend on my ability to listen carefully to those who seek my care and expertise.  My experience as a small business owner has also given me useful skills in financial management, strategic planning, and building partnerships.

I have served as the Sylvan Township Clerk since July of 2021 and have conducted safe and secure elections. Sylvan Township was chosen as one of the Early Voting Sites for Washtenaw County. I collaborated with staff and election inspectors to make Sylvan one of the top three attended voting sites across the County in the February 2024 Presidential Primary.

As a representative of the residents of Sylvan, I believe in making sure your voice is heard. I have been a strong advocate for carefully managing growth to protect the integrity of our communities and making sure our decisions ensure the most efficient use of tax dollars.

My efforts to appropriately commit utility tap fees towards the Water and Sewer Bond have put us in a position to remove the 4.4 millage from the 2024 Winter Tax roll, saving taxpayers hundreds of dollars a year.

Volunteering and service to others have always been important to me. We thrive collectively when we elect leaders who approach policy and planning decisions based on broad resident input and carefully consider how it will impact our township at large now and in the future, and with a priority to protect the integrity of our existing communities.

My passion to preserve and protect Sylvan Township spans many years and is rooted in my childhood. I cannot do it alone. Please join me this election cycle with your support and together we can ensure our township retains the beautiful rural character that makes it such a special place to live.
