High-speed internet is no longer a luxury.  It is a necessity.  From residents working remotely, to students taking online classes, or virtual healthcare appointments, we need reliable high-speed internet for every household in Sylvan Township.

Amanda Nimke Ballard believes we need reliable high-speed internet for every household in Sylvan Township.

In 2019 I made it my mission to find a solution that would bring broadband to every home in the Township. I worked with township residents to form the Sylvan Township Broadband Committee and we researched several options.

In the spring of 2020 I began serving as Sylvan Township’s representative on the Washtenaw County Broadband Task Force and was a strong advocate for our resident’s needs as we evaluated the lack of broadband in many rural areas throughout the County.

In 2021 we secured over 18 million dollars in federal funding to bring high-speed internet to every home in Sylvan Township and across the County. Fiber infrastructure is currently being constructed and installed throughout the township.

Washtenaw County will be the first in the State to achieve 100% broadband coverage. This will support an improved quality of life for those of us who have struggled without access to broadband, and economic stability in the entire area.
